hbo_logoblueWith midterm elections looming, Vice President Selina Meyer is scoring higher ratings than the president in several popularity polls, which she hopes will boost her influence and help her curry favor with the chief executive. But as she knows all too well, even the most banal action can set off a ripple effect that has unexpected, far-reaching – and often disastrous – consequences.

The Emmy®-nominated comedy series VEEP kicks off its ten-episode second season SUNDAY, APRIL 14 (10:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO. Created by Armando Iannucci (Oscar® nominee for co-writing “In the Loop”), the show stars Emmy®-winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer, who becomes vice president, only to discover The Job is nothing like she expected, but everything she was warned about.

VEEP follows the whirlwind day-to-day existence of Vice President Meyer as she puts out political fires, juggles a busy public schedule and demanding private life, and defends the president’s interests, even as she tries to improve her dysfunctional relationship with the chief executive.

The returning ensemble cast of the show also includes Tony Hale (“Arrested Development”) as Gary, Vice President Meyer’s right-hand man; Anna Chlumsky (“In the Loop”) as Amy, her chief of staff; Reid Scott (“My Boys”) as Dan, an ambitious political aide; Matt Walsh (HBO’s “Hung”) as Mike, Vice President Meyer’s weathered spokesperson; Timothy C. Simons (“Days Together”) as Jonah, an enterprising but annoying White House liaison; and Sufe Bradshaw (“Overnight”) as Sue, Vice President Meyer’s executive assistant.

Guest stars on the new season include Gary Cole (HBO’s “Entourage”), as Kent Davison, the president’s new senior strategist, Kevin Dunn (HBO’s “Luck”) as Ben, the president’s chief of staff, and Jessica St. Clair (“Bridesmaids”), as Dana, Gary’s new girlfriend.

Break Out the Wine – TBS’s “Cougar Town” is Coming Back for Season 5

#cougartownrenewed

Cougar-TownTBS has renewed its hit original comedy Cougar Town, produced by ABC Studios and starringCourteney CoxChrista Miller, Busy Philipps,Dan Byrd, Ian Gomez, Josh Hopkins and Brian Van Holt. The network has ordered 13 episodes for season five, which is expected to launch in 2014. Cougar Town joined the TBS lineup in January for the show’s fourth season. It currently airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), with the season finale slated for April 9.

Cougar Town has been everything we hoped it would be: a smart, big-hearted, laugh-out-loud comedy that shines a bright light on the TBS brand,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “This season, the brilliant cast and immensely creative production team on Cougar Townhave crafted their best episodes yet, and we couldn’t be happier inviting them back for more.”

Cougar Town centers on the “cul de sac crew,” a tight-knit group of friends who keep things funny while supporting each other through the challenges and pitfalls of life – with a little dysfunction and a whole lot of wine. Courteney Cox stars as Jules Cobb, a recently remarried mom who is never far from her wine and her friends, including her new husband, Grayson (Josh Hopkins); her under-achieving ex-husband, Bobby (Brian Van Holt); her next-door neighbor and confidante, Ellie (Christa Miller); her feisty protégé, Laurie (Busy Philipps); and Ellie’s loveably average husband, Andy (Ian Gomez). They are frequently joined by Jules’ 21-year-old son, Travis (Dan Byrd), who tends to be far more mature than anyone else in the group.

Cougar Town was co-created by executive producer Bill Lawrence (ScrubsSpin City) and consulting producer Kevin Biegel (Scrubs). Courteney Cox and David Arquette also serve as executive producers.

Cougar Town Ratings

HBO Cancels ‘Enlightenment’ After Two Seasons, Lies And Claims, “It Was A Very Difficult Decision”

enlightened

The funniest part about the cancellation of the critically-acclaimed crapfest that nobody watched known as Enlightened (because the critics are always smarter than the audience), is that every single outlet covering the end of this stupid show cites the biggest lie told to date this year by a television network:

“It was a very difficult decision.  We’re proud of the show and we look forward to working with Mike White and Laura Dern in the future.”

That was from HBO’s press statement. Liars.  No one except the most pretentious pseudo-intellectuals could tolerate this stupid show for more than five minutes.  For crap’s sake, even the title was pretentious.

Just tell it like it is, HBO; this show was a dead-bang loser and you lost money on it.

Macy and Golden Globe® nominee Emmy Rossum.  Season three picked up several months after last season ended, with the Gallaghers each seeking their own unique version of the “American Dream.” Fiona (Emmy Rossum) realizes that it’s going to take more than earning her GED to make ends meet, and that a long term relationship with Jimmy (Justin Chatwin) isn’t as fulfilling as she expected.  Brothers Lip (Jeremy Allen White) and Ian (Cameron Monaghan) continue their ingenious scamming ways, which threatens Ian’s shot at West Point, while Sheila (Joan Cusack, in her Emmy Award-nominated role) and Jody (Zach McGowan) do their best to raise baby Hymie. HOUSE OF LIES (Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT), which stars Don Cheadle in his Golden Globe® Award-winning and Emmy nominated performance as Marty Kaan, is a timely comedy that dives head-first into the shark tank known as corporate America. Marty is the big-money earner at Galweather Stearn, who commands a hot, young team known as The Pod: Jeannie (Kristen Bell), Clyde (Ben Schwartz) and Doug (Josh Lawson). Marty and The Pod’s work life revolves around first-class travel, top-shelf liquor and anything they can charge the client on a black Am Ex. Marty is the ultimate power player and under his direction, this ruthless, pull-no-punches team is here to beat the corporate suckers at their own game – and they’re loving every minute of it. This season, The Pod – especially Marty and Jeannie – must deal with the fall-out from the big merger showdown. On the home front, Marty is thrown when Roscoe (Donis Leonard Jr.) decides to move in with his unbalanced mother, Monica (Dawn Olivieri). The series is based on the hit tell-all book from best-selling author Martin Kihn (House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Then Tell You the Time). Produced by SHOWTIME, HOUSE OF LIES is created and executive produced by Matthew Carnahan. Jessika Borsiczky, Stephen Hopkins and Don Cheadle also serve as executive producers.

CALIFORNICATION (Sundays at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT) stars David Duchovny in his Golden Globe Award-winning role as hedonistic novelist Hank Moody, who struggles to be a good father to his college-aged daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin), while still carrying a torch for her mother, and his ex-girlfriend, Karen (Natascha McElhone). For the sixth season, noted actress Maggie Grace (Lost) has signed on for nine episodes as the infamous rock groupie Faith, who develops an unconventional relationship with Hank. She is joined in two episodes by her former Lost co-star Jorge Garcia as an old contact from Faith’s past. International comedy star Tim Minchin takes on the role of Atticus Fetch, a mad-as-a-hatter rock star who will write the music for the Broadway production of Hank’s hit novel.  Fetch enlists the ever-cynical Hank to collaborate on the project, which he calls “…a rock opera about love conquering all.” Notorious rocker Marilyn Manson will also make a guest appearance. CALIFORNICATION is created and executive produced by Tom Kapinos and executive produced by David Duchovny.

FOX is announcing season finale dates and premiere dates for its summer programs, including new unscripted series DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GO, the Season 10 premiere of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, the premiere of family comedy THE GOODWIN GAMES and the return of MASTERCHEF.

New unscripted workplace experiment DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GO clocks in with a special previewWednesday, May 15 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following the first night of the two-night season finale of AMERICAN IDOL (8:00-9:00 ET live/PT tape-delayed). In the series, which makes its time period premiereThursday, May 23 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), the boardroom doors get blown wide open when employees are given the power to make some tough decisions. Frustrated bosses will hand over the reins of their companies to the employees, offering their respective staffs a chance to make changes in the workplace – even if it means letting co-workers go. Each participating office will have its own set of issues, which will force them to take a hard look at what’s plaguing their workplace and answer the toughest question of all: DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GO?

Returning for its landmark 10th season, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE waltzes into a new season Tuesday, May 14 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The Emmy Award-nominated hit dance competition series will feature host Cat Deeley and resident judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, as well as guest judges including actress Minnie Driver, actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, comedian Wayne Brady, All-Star Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Adam Shankman, among others, at auditions in Austin, Boston, Detroit, Memphis and Los Angeles.  Each two-hour show will again feature breathtaking performances as well as suspenseful eliminations, as the contestants compete to be named America’s Favorite Dancers.

New comedy THE GOODWIN GAMES starts playing Monday, May 20 (8:30-9:00 PM), as part of a night of half-hour comedies, including encores of RAISING HOPE (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT), NEW GIRL (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) and THE MINDY PROJECT (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT). Starring Scott Foley (“Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Felicity”), Becki Newton (“Ugly Betty”) and T.J. Miller (“Our Idiot Brother,” “She’s Out Of My League”), the inventive family comedy tells the story of three estranged siblings who return home after the loss of their beloved father (guest star Beau Bridges, “My Name Is Earl”), and unexpectedly find themselves poised to inherit more than $20 million – if, and only if, they can adhere to their late father’s wishes.

MASTERCHEF debuts its fourth season with a two-hour season premiere on Wednesday, May 22 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). After a nationwide search, the best home cooks in America arrive in Los Angeles to present their signature dishes to judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot. The hopefuls whose dishes impress the judges the most will earn a coveted white apron and move onto the next round. Throughout the season, the judges will challenge the newest batch of contestants through a series of grueling challenges and elimination rounds to determine which home cook has the skill, drive and passion to make a mark in the culinary world and win a life-changing grand prize.

As previously announced, ANIMATION DOMINATION HIGH-DEF, FOX’s new alternative animated programming block, will premiere on air Saturday, July 27 (11:00 PM-12:30 AM ET/PT), with a number of new quarter-hour animated series, including AXE COP, based on the hit graphic novel; HIGH SCHOOL USA!, created by Dino Stamatopoulos (“Community”); the UNTITLED LUCAS BROTHERS PROJECT, from identical twin comedians Kenny and Keith Lucas (aka The Lucas Brothers); and GOLAN THE INSATIABLE, from Fox Digital Studio script writer Joshua Miller. Voice actors include Megan Mullally (“Children’s Hospital,” “Will & Grace”), Patton Oswalt (“Young Adult,” “Ratatouille”), Ken Marino (“Children’s Hospital,” “Party Down”), Vincent Kartheiser (“Mad Men”),  Mandy Moore (“Tangled”), among others.

Before summer, don’t miss these season finale events: KITCHEN NIGHTMARES (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on Friday, April 5; TOUCH (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on Friday, April 26;  BONES (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) and THE FOLLOWING (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on Monday, April 29; the special one-hour season finale of COPS (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on Saturday, May 4; NEW GIRL (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) and THE MINDY PROJECT (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) on Tuesday, May 7; GLEE (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on Thursday, May 9; and AMERICAN IDOL’s two-night season finale on Wednesday, May 15 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) and Thursday, May 16 (8:00-10:07 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed).
